Introduction

You're at a chai stall. The cup costs a few rupees, there's a queue behind you, and nobody wants to wait while a payment loads. That small, everyday moment is where digital payment apps win or lose users.

Paytm knew this better than anyone. It had launched Paytm Lite, a feature built to make small value payments quicker and easier. The challenge was getting the right people to notice it, understand it and actually use it.

In 2023, Paytm partnered with BloomX to run an influencer marketing campaign built on micro influencers and relatable stories. We worked with 50 influencers, generated 1 Lakh+ views in the first phase of content and reached 1 Million+ impressions.

Here's how we did it, and what any fintech brand can learn about launching a feature through creators.

Who Is Paytm?

Paytm is India's leading payment app. It powers 20 million merchants and is used by over 300 million Indians for everyday transactions, from paying at stores to recharges, bill payments and travel bookings.

As the pioneer of India's digital payments revolution, Paytm keeps adding features that make transactions simpler and more accessible. Paytm Lite was one of those launches. It was designed for small value payments, the kind people make several times a day without thinking twice.

That's exactly why awareness mattered. A feature built for daily habits only works if people remember it at the moment they pay.

The Challenge: Rebuilding Buzz in a Crowded Market

Being a market leader doesn't make you immune to competition. Paytm faced three clear problems.

Tough competition. Rival payment apps were gaining traction, especially with younger users who switch apps easily and follow trends quickly.

Feature awareness. Paytm Lite was new. It had to be explained clearly to the exact audience who would benefit most, people making frequent low value payments.

Mass reach. The campaign couldn't stop at digital first urban users. It also had to reach semi urban audiences and emerging digital adopters across India.

Put simply, Paytm had to rebuild buzz around its innovation and make sure Paytm Lite's value reached the people it was built for.

Traditional ads could deliver reach. But could they make a payment feature feel personal? We didn't think so.

Our Approach: An Influencer Campaign Built on Everyday Stories

We designed an influencer driven awareness campaign that explained, simplified and popularised Paytm Lite in a relatable, story first way. Our goal was clear: position the feature as the easiest way to make small payments, quick, secure and accessible to everyone.

Influencer Collaboration

We collaborated with 50 influencers across lifestyle, tech and youth niches. Each one translated the Paytm Lite story into scenes their followers already live every day.

Creators showed how Paytm Lite makes small daily transactions effortless. They used familiar examples like chai, snacks, travel tickets and daily essentials, so viewers could picture themselves using the feature within seconds.

The influencer mix was deliberate. Micro influencers built relatability with tier 2 and tier 3 audiences, where trust in a local voice often matters more than follower count. Macro voices drove scale in urban markets, where reach and visibility count.

Why lean so heavily on smaller creators for a fintech launch? Money is personal. People are cautious about where they tap and what they trust with a payment. A creator who looks, talks and shops like their audience lowers that guard far faster than a polished brand ad. When a familiar face pays for tea in a few seconds, the feature stops feeling new and risky. It starts feeling normal.

By building Paytm Lite into daily life content, we made the feature easy to understand and something people wanted to try.

Content Formats

Payment features aren't exciting on paper. So we chose formats built for fast consumption and strong recall.

Reels and Shorts broke down how Paytm Lite works in simple, visual ways. Relatable skits and daily life vignettes explained the convenience factor without sounding like a product manual. Static creatives and story highlights reinforced the message across platforms, so people who saw a video once saw the idea again. Regional creators made sure the communication landed with audiences outside the metros, in language and settings that felt local.

This mix meant the feature wasn't only seen widely. It was understood clearly.

Positioning Paytm Lite as an Everyday Companion

Many feature launches fail because they're presented as just another app update.
We framed Paytm Lite differently: As an everyday payment companion that saves time, adds convenience and fits naturally into life.

Our positioning had three anchors. Paytm Lite was the fastest and simplest way to handle small value payments. Its stories were tied to affordability, convenience and everyday culture. And it was made relevant to both students and working class users, the groups who make frequent low value transactions every day.

This positioning shaped every brief we gave creators.
Instead of listing technical benefits, each piece of content answered one simple question a viewer might have: How does this make my day easier? A student buying snacks between classes and a worker paying for a daily commute ticket would both find a version of the answer that fit their routine.

That framing did more than promote a feature. It strengthened how people saw Paytm itself, as an innovator and also a brand that understands the pulse of its users.

The Results: What the Campaign Delivered

Here's what the influencer led campaign achieved for Paytm Lite.

The campaign generated 1 Million+ impressions. That's more than a million chances for people to see Paytm Lite in a real, everyday setting, delivered through voices they already follow.

Content views crossed 1 Lakh+ in the first phase alone. For a feature launch, early momentum like this matters. It shows audiences were watching and engaging from the start.

All of this came from 50 influencers collaborating across lifestyle and tech niches, proof that a well chosen creator network can carry a fintech message far beyond a single channel.

Beyond the numbers, the campaign built strong awareness of Paytm Lite and reinforced Paytm's position as a leader in small value digital payments.

What Fintech Brands Can Learn From This Campaign

You don't need Paytm's scale to apply these lessons. If you're launching a fintech feature, the hardest part is usually making something technical feel simple.

Start with the moment of use, not the feature list. Show the chai, the ticket, the snack. Pick creators by audience, mixing micro influencers for trust in smaller cities with bigger voices for reach in metros. Use short videos to explain and static posts to remind. And bring in regional creators early, because a message that sounds local is far easier to believe.

When was the last time your product was explained the way your customers actually talk?

Conclusion

Through an influencer led awareness campaign, we positioned Paytm Lite as a feature built for everyday convenience. Relatable storytelling, everyday examples and wide influencer distribution helped Paytm reach over 1 million impressions and reconnect with audiences in a competitive digital payments market.

The campaign re-established Paytm's voice as a customer first innovator and strengthened trust among both urban and semi urban digital adopters.

If your brand has a feature people would love once they understood it, we'd be happy to help you tell that story.
