Astro Arun Pandit had 1.2 lakh consultations behind him, clients across 82 countries, and a combined social following of more than five million people.
His new astrology app had none of that.
Zero installs. No followers. No ads running. No content strategy. Just a product that worked and a market full of competitors already spending heavily to get noticed. Eighteen months later, Horocosmo had crossed 15 lakh app installs and generated ₹4.20 crore in revenue on ₹1.12 crore of ad spend.
Here's what happened in between, and what you can borrow if you're launching an app in a category where trust matters more than features.
A founder's reputation rarely carries a new product on its own.
When Horocosmo came to BloomX in late 2024, the app had a genuinely strong offering. Users could generate their Kundli, talk to live astrologers over call or chat, read daily horoscopes, and get guidance on marriage, career, health, and money. What it didn't have was a reason for a stranger to download it.
Five gaps were stopping it:
So the brief was wide open. Build the brand, build the audience, build the revenue engine, and do all three at the same time.
The first decision shaped everything after it. Horocosmo needed a face that wasn't a person.
Tying an app's identity to a founder creates a ceiling. Every reel needs that person, every campaign waits on their schedule, and the brand can never scale past their calendar. So BloomX built Horocosmo's visual language, tone, and positioning as a standalone product, then created Somzy, an original animated character made exclusively for the app's social media.
Somzy gave the brand a consistent, recognisable presence that could appear in devotional content, festival posts, horoscope explainers, and ad creatives without a single shoot day. The character carried the warmth people expect from astrology content while staying modern enough for a 24-year-old scrolling at midnight.
That's the quiet advantage of an animated mascot. It never ages, never gets busy, and never takes its audience with it if the relationship ends.
The account started with animation-led and art-style visuals mixing devotional themes with astrology. It performed reasonably. Then July 2025 changed the trajectory.
BloomX pivoted the content mix harder towards devotional storytelling, and the Guru Purnima reel went viral. It became the single highest organic reach moment on the account, and it reset what the team understood about the audience. People weren't looking for astrology facts. They were looking for something to hold onto.
Everything after that followed the same logic:
Every astrological event got covered properly: From Shani Jayanti to Guru Purnima, the content explained what the event meant, why it mattered, and what a person could actually do about it. Information alone doesn't get saved or shared. Guidance does.
Automation did real work, not lazy work: Comment-triggered reels and carousels ran through ManyChat, delivering personality readings, lucky wallpapers, intention-setting prompts, and manifestation guidance straight into DMs. Each automated message was built around something the audience genuinely wanted. That's the difference between a DM automation that grows a list and one that gets muted in a week.
Brand and content built the trust. Paid media turned it into installs and revenue.
The performance side ran across Meta and Google with a creative-first approach, and three findings drove most of the result.
The standout asset was the 2026 Horoscope Report video, which drove over 1.37 lakh installs in a single month. It was the best-performing creative of the entire campaign, and it worked because it offered something specific and time-bound instead of a general invitation to download an astrology app.
On Meta, UGC-style creatives consistently outperformed polished branded videos. This surprises brands with good design teams almost every time. A slightly rough video of a real person reacting to their Kundli reading beats a beautifully rendered brand film, because it looks like a recommendation rather than an ad.
And intent was segmented properly. Over 60 creatives were tested across 9 intent categories, covering Kundli, Matchmaking, Sade Sati, Palmistry, and more. Someone worried about Sade Sati and someone checking marriage compatibility are two different buyers. Giving them the same ad wastes both impressions.
That structure is what held the return steady as spend scaled.
Across the campaign period from late 2024 to 2026:
Revenue came from four streams rather than one, which matters more than the headline figure. An app that monetises only through consultations lives and dies by astrologer availability. Horocosmo earned across calls, chat, reports, and remedies, so a slow week in one channel never flattened the month.
Build the product brand separately from the founder brand: Borrowed credibility opens the first door. It won't scale past it.
Let the audience tell you what content works, then commit: The devotional pivot happened because one reel outperformed everything else. The team followed the signal instead of defending the original plan.
Test creative volume, not just audiences: Sixty creatives across nine intent categories found winners that no amount of audience tinkering would have surfaced.
Give your best offer a deadline: The 2026 Horoscope Report worked because it had a reason to be downloaded now.
In under two years, Horocosmo went from a brand with no digital identity to an app with 15 lakh+ installs and ₹4.20 crore in revenue on ₹1.12 crore in ad spend.
What started as a blank brief became a working growth engine with its own character, a content strategy that went viral, and a paid media system returning 5.33x on every rupee spent.
If you're sitting on a strong product with no digital footprint, the gap isn't your offering. It's the brand, the content, and the funnel you haven't built yet.
