Google Ads for Education: How Kaabil Kids Improved Sales Qualified Conversions

Introduction

Most brands come to us saying the same thing. We need more leads.

Kaabil Kids came to us with the opposite problem.

The enquiries were already flowing. Parents already knew the name. The brand had been on Shark Tank India with backing from Aman Gupta and Namita Thapar, so credibility was never the bottleneck. What Kaabil Kids wanted was harder than volume. They wanted the right parents. The ones who treat chess as a multi-year investment in how their child thinks, not a weekend hobby the kid abandons after three classes.

That's a filtering problem. Filtering problems don't get solved by raising the ad budget.

A Brand That Already Had Demand

Kaabil Kids is one of India's leading online chess learning platforms. The pitch to parents is straightforward and it works: structured coaching from experienced mentors that builds critical thinking, concentration, decision making and confidence in children.

By the time they brought us in, the top of the funnel was healthy. Awareness was strong. Enquiries were consistent. Trust was already built.

The gap sat further down. Plenty of parents were filling the form, fewer were showing up to the demo, and fewer still were converting into paying enrolments. Every rupee spent attracting a curious browser who wanted one free trial class was a rupee that didn't attract a parent ready to commit for two years.

So we came in as a performance marketing partner with a specific brief. Build an acquisition system that consistently pulls in high intent parents, tightens enrollment efficiency, and holds up when the brand expands into selected Indian cities and international markets.

Why More Leads Would Have Made Things Worse

There's a version of this project where we double the daily budget, widen the keyword net, and report a huge jump in lead volume. The dashboard looks great. The sales team quietly starts hating you.

Broad education keywords bring in everyone. Parents comparing free YouTube chess tutorials. People who typed "chess for kids" out of idle curiosity. Someone looking for a birthday activity. Each one costs money to acquire and eats a slot on the counsellor's calendar.

We set the objective differently from day one. Not the highest number of leads. The highest percentage of enrolments.

That single reframe changed what we optimised for at every stage. Bid strategies, negative keywords, ad copy, landing page structure, geography, even the tone of the video creatives all got judged against one question. Does this bring us a parent who will still be enrolled six months from now?

We Fixed the Landing Page Before We Touched the Budget

This part gets skipped constantly, and it's the reason a lot of Google Ads accounts underperform.

Sending more traffic to a page that leaks is just paying more to lose more people. Before any scaling happened, we went through the complete post-click journey and rebuilt it around conversion.

We restructured the page so the strongest proof points hit before the fold instead of sitting halfway down. We rewrote the messaging so it spoke to what parents actually weigh up, which is outcomes for their child rather than curriculum jargon. We tightened site performance so pages loaded fast on mid-range Android phones, since that's what a large share of Indian parents browse on. We moved and simplified the calls to action, and cut friction out of the enquiry flow so booking a demo took seconds.

The point was simple. Get maximum value out of every click we'd already paid for.

Creatives That Set the Right Expectation

Google Ads performance isn't only a keyword game. What a parent sees shapes who bothers to click.

We worked with the brand on ad positioning, value proposition and creative messaging, then produced AI powered video creatives to carry it. Using AI video let us test multiple angles and variations quickly without booking a shoot for every idea, which matters when you're iterating weekly.

The creatives were built to attract and repel in equal measure. A serious, structured, mentor-led programme looks and sounds different from a casual hobby class. Parents self-selected before they ever reached the form.

Ads, landing page and the actual customer experience finally said the same thing.

Search Campaigns Built on Parent Intent

We ignored broad education terms and went after searches that only committed parent types.

Queries like online chess classes for kids, professional chess coaching, competitive chess training, chess academy for children and online chess learning programmes carry a different mindset. Someone searching "competitive chess training" has already decided chess matters. They're choosing a provider, not exploring an idea.

From there it was continuous refinement. Search query analysis to catch what people were really typing. Aggressive negative keyword expansion to cut waste. Smart bidding tuned to qualified conversions rather than raw form fills. Audience segmentation, device level adjustments, geographic targeting across Tier 1 and premium Tier 2 Indian cities, budget reallocation toward what converted, and a steady A/B testing cycle on copy and creative.

We deliberately avoided mass market geography. A smaller set of cities with the right parent profile beat a national blanket approach on every metric that mattered.

Taking the Model International

Once the domestic system was producing predictable results, we opened dedicated campaigns in international markets.

International parents search differently. The vocabulary changes, the price expectations change, and the reasons for choosing online chess change too. We localised campaigns around regional search behaviour and market demand instead of copy-pasting the Indian setup across borders.

That's what kept acquisition efficiency healthy while the brand picked up qualified enquiries from parents outside India.

What Actually Changed

The improvement showed up across the whole enrollment journey, not just at the top.

Qualified conversion rate moved from 8% to 10%. On paid acquisition, a two point lift compounds fast, because it applies to every rupee already flowing through the account. Paid leads grew 50% over the same period, and the lead to demo booking rate reached 26.38%, which meant a far larger share of enquiries were turning into real conversations with the counselling team instead of dying in the CRM. All of it ran on INR 32 L+ in managed ad spend. More parents booked demos. More demos became enrolments. And the system held together when we pushed it into new geographies, which is the real test of whether an acquisition engine is built properly or just riding one lucky campaign.

What Your Brand Can Take From This

Kaabil Kids had everything most education brands want. Recognition, credibility, national visibility and investor validation.

None of that automatically converts.

If your brand is in a similar spot, with demand that already exists but a funnel that leaks value, three things from this project transfer directly. Optimise the post-click experience before you spend more on the click. Define success as the percentage that enrols, not the count that enquires. And build creativity that filters people out on purpose, because the wrong lead costs you twice, once in ad spend and again in your team's time.

Volume is easy to buy. Quality has to be engineered.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do you improve lead quality in Google Ads instead of just lead volume?
Shift your conversion goal away from form fills and toward a qualified action further down the funnel, like a booked demo or a sales-verified lead. Feed that signal back into smart bidding so Google optimises for the right outcome. Pair it with aggressive negative keyword work and tighter geographic targeting.
Should you optimize your landing page before increasing ad spend?
Yes, almost always. Extra spend on a page that converts poorly just multiplies the loss. Fixing page speed, messaging and form friction first means every additional rupee works harder from day one.
Do AI generated video creatives work for Google Ads campaigns?
They work well for rapid testing, because you can produce multiple message variations without organising a shoot each time. The creative concept still has to be strong. AI speeds up production, it doesn't replace positioning work.
How do you run Google Ads for international markets without wasting budget?
Build separate campaigns localised to each market rather than extending your domestic campaigns geographically. Search vocabulary, competitor sets and price expectations differ by region. Start with a controlled budget, learn the search behaviour, then scale what proves efficient.
How long does it take to see results from a quality first Google Ads strategy?
Expect volume to dip before quality metrics climb, often within the first few weeks. Smart bidding needs enough qualified conversion data to learn, so give the account a full learning cycle before judging it. Meaningful funnel improvement usually shows across two to three months.
