Performance Marketing INDIA · 2026 EDITION YouTube SEO for Brands: How to Rank Videos and Get Pulled Into Google Search
Your ad got disapproved. Again.
Most astrologers read that email and conclude Google has banned the category. It hasn't. Search results still carry paid ads for kundli matching, career readings, and consultation bookings every day. What usually gets blocked is one sentence in your headline or one claim on your landing page. Fix the sentence and the campaign runs.
Nobody tells you which sentence, though. So the budget quietly moves to Meta, and a channel where people are actively typing "talk to astrologer online" goes unused.
Google Ads for astrology business works. It just asks for different discipline than a D2C store selling sunglasses.
No line in Google's policy book says astrology is banned. Rejections almost always land under the Misrepresentation family of policies, specifically claims that can't be substantiated.
Two things trigger a reviewer. Promising an outcome you have no control over, and targeting someone in visible distress.
Phrases that reliably get astrology ads rejected: "100% accurate prediction", "guaranteed solution", "get your love back in 7 days", "remove black magic permanently", "vashikaran specialist". Every one promises a result. Google's reviewers, both AI and human, read that as a claim you can't back up.
Rewriting them isn't hard:
Before: Get Your Love Back in 7 Days, Guaranteed After: Talk to a Vedic Astrologer About Your Relationship
Before: 100% Accurate Kundli Prediction After: Detailed Kundli Reading by Verified Astrologers
Before: Remove Black Magic Permanently After: Book a Personalised Remedies Consultation
Notice what changed. You're selling access to an expert, not a guaranteed result.
The second thing people miss: reviewers check your landing page, not only your ad. If the ad is clean and your homepage still shouts about guaranteed solutions, you'll keep appealing to the wrong asset. Put your astrologer's real credentials on the page, add a visible refund policy, publish a working phone number, and include a short guidance disclaimer. That removes the most common reason for a repeat rejection.
A bit of history explains the confusion around psychic services and the policy Google enforces. In 2016, Gmail Ads explicitly disallowed products relating to spiritual abilities and guidance, naming mysticism, psychic ability, and magic. That language got folded into Google's interest-based advertising rules. The specific ban went away. The reviewer's instinct around it didn't.
This one catches almost everybody, and it has nothing to do with your ad copy.
Google treats religious beliefs as a sensitive interest category inside its personalized advertising policy. The examples Google itself gives include religious guidance and religious products or topics. An astrology consultation website reads exactly like that to a classifier.
Once your account gets flagged, you lose advertiser-curated audiences. Customer Match lists, your own remarketing lists, similar audiences, and custom segments built from your website data all stop working. You keep Google's predefined audiences, like In-Market and Affinity, because Google strips the sensitive signals out of those itself.
Read that again, because it changes your whole plan. Your retargeting pool is gone.
That hurts more in astrology than in most categories. Nobody books a consultation on first contact with a stranger. They read, they compare, they come back on a Sunday evening.
So you build the nurture somewhere Google can't restrict:
At BloomX we treat this as an architecture decision, not a workaround. If a platform limits how you follow up, you move follow-up off the platform.
Start with Search, not Performance Max. Performance Max hides where your money goes, and in a category this policy-sensitive you need to see every placement.
Sort your keywords into tiers and give each tier its own campaign:
Transactional: Talk to astrologer online, book astrology consultation, online kundli matching, astrologer near me Problem-specific: career astrology consultation, manglik dosh remedy, sade sati remedies, marriage compatibility reading Informational: what is rahu ketu transit, today's horoscope
That third tier is where budgets die. Astrology has one of the largest free-intent search bases in India, and if you don't block it, you'll pay for students, browsers, and people looking for a free PDF. Your negative keyword list should be long from day one: free, free kundli, PDF, download, app, course, jobs, meaning in Hindi, tarot reading free.
Then match the format to how consultations actually close. They close on the phone. Run call-only campaigns and add call assets to your Search ads so a warm caller doesn't have to hunt for a form.
Two settings that quietly move numbers. Split by language and geography, because Hindi copy converts differently in tier 2 cities than English copy does in Mumbai. And check your ad schedule, since consultation calls cluster in evenings and on weekends. On a small budget, running 24/7 spreads you thin.
Every astrologer asks the same question. What's a good CPL?
Wrong question to ask first. Define what counts as a lead.
A form fill is not a lead in a call-based practice. It's a phone number that might be fake. Define your conversion as something real: a connected call over 60 seconds, a WhatsApp reply, or a completed booking. Import that into Google Ads and let Smart Bidding optimize toward it. Bid on the wrong signal and the algorithm will cheerfully buy you a thousand junk form fills.
Once the definition is right, the math is simple:
Cost per lead is ad spend divided by qualified leads. Customer acquisition cost is your CPL divided by your lead-to-paid conversion rate. Then you compare that against consultation value and repeat rate.
An illustrative scenario, not any client's actual numbers. Say a consultation sells for ₹1,500 and one in four qualified leads converts. A ₹300 CPL means ₹1,200 spent to earn ₹1,500. Thin enough to be dangerous. Keep the same ₹300 CPL, push conversion to 40%, add one repeat consultation, and the channel turns profitable.
The lever moved twice there, and neither time was it the bid.
Which is the real point. Most CPL problems in astrology are answer-rate and follow-up-speed problems. Track how many calls you pick up, how fast you return a missed one, and how long the average conversation runs. Fix those before touching a bid strategy.
Horocosmo came to us in late 2024 with a strong name behind it and no digital footprint. The app belongs to Astro Arun Pandit, a Vedic astrologer with over 1.2 lakh consultations and clients in 82 countries, but the product had no brand, no content, and no acquisition system.
We built all three at once. Over two years, paid campaigns drove more than 15 lakh app installs and ₹4.20 crore in revenue on ₹1.12 crore of ad spend across calls, chats, reports, and remedies. The strongest single asset was a 2026 Horoscope Report video that brought in over 1.37 lakh installs in one month.
The transferable lesson sits in the testing. We ran more than 60 creatives across nine intent categories, from kundli and matchmaking through to sade sati and palmistry. Somebody worried about their sade sati period is not the person checking marriage compatibility, and one generic ad serves neither. The Horocosmo case study has the full breakdown.
Poppy Eyewear isn't an astrology brand, but the structural lesson carried across. We layered awareness, consideration, and retargeting as separate campaigns rather than one blended push, and tested creatives and placements continuously. Website work lifted traffic 10x inside the first month, and early campaigns returned 4x transactions with 2x ROAS during launch. Detail sits in the Poppy case study.
Both accounts make the same argument. The ad account was never the whole system.
Astrology ads on Google aren't blocked. They're governed, and the rules are specific enough to work with once you know them. Strip the guarantees out of your copy, clean up the landing page, accept that your retargeting lists may be off the table, structure Search around intent tiers, and define a lead as something that signals a human actually wants to talk.
Do that, and cost per lead becomes a number you can control instead of a number that happens to you.
If your ads are sitting disapprovingly right now, the fix is usually smaller than you think.
